Tony Ichsan
At Whitman College, Tony is responsible for the College’s built and natural environment. In his portfolio are programs, such as capital and lifecycle projects, maintenance, operations, grounds, custodial, sustainability, environmental health and safety, energy management, rental properties, baseball stadium, conference, events and scheduling – all in support of equitable student success.
With over 30 years of higher education experience in California, Oregon and Washington, Tony has enjoyed a wide variety of responsibilities at a research university, independent (private) residential colleges, and community colleges. This also provided him the opportunity to amass a wealth of first-hand experience (in addition to the above), as Division Dean, Planning/ Design/Construction, as well as being responsible for several GO Bonds ($250M, $410M.) Tony has been nominated and accepted in various capacities, including the PCAPPA President, Secretary and Chair of the Senior Regional Representative on the Executive APPA Board. He has also been involved with APPA at the international level as researcher, author, faculty, conference presenter, and subject matter expert. Tony has reviewed and support the launching of several key APPA initiatives: Credentialing, Emerging Professional, Code Advocacy, Community College Engagement and Sustainability. Most recently in a committee to support the formalization of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He was extremely honored that these contributions to APPA have been recognized by his colleagues, garnering both an Unsung Hero award as well as APPA’s highest individual honor: the Meritorious Service award.
